When we decided that Samos was the only island that we would visit during our time in Greece, we really didn't know anything about it. It was even more strange that we ended up in Ireon. I am so glad we did.
Eleana was great by email, and explained that Ireon was a great place to stay, and after visiting every city in Samos, we were so glad we were staying in Ireon. It was a perfect blend of great beaches, awesome food and extremely friendly people.
We loved our stay at the apartments too. We Canadians were a little unused to the 40+ degree weather, and Eleana lended us a few fans to get used to it (thank you!). The apartments are so charming and beautiful and we ate breakfast each morning on our patio looking at the ocean. We loved the home cooking, and the friendliness.
Thanks again for inviting us to Ireon, and we will never forget our time in Samos!
I just returned from Samos today and want to say thanks again for the wonderful two weeks in one of Elena's studios - which was really lovely and perfect for a relaxing holiday!
But not only relaxing. It was also the warm contact with Eleana and her family, their attentiveness and friendliness. I enjoyed the home-made food, the spontaneous invitations to drink a greek coffee or once to take part in a family party (dancing sirta with Eleana ...). As said below: they made me feel at home.
Eupharisto polu and all best!
Superb accommodation very close to the beach and the tavernas. Short walking distance. Ileana made us so welcome with home made jam, salad vegetables and home made wine. The apartment (Room 4) is very spacious.
This is a very quiet resort and very restful. Tavernas overlooking the waterfront and only 15mins to Airport.
Ileana speaks excellent English and is so helpful. Strongly recommend this accommodation and resort if you are looking for somewhere relaxing
Another fantastic hoiday with Eleana and her family. This year (due to there only being 1 flight from Manchester),we flew to Athens with EasyJet and then toSamos with Aegean. Unfortunately the plane from Manchester went technical meaning we missed our connection and had to stay in Athens overnight., but we will do this again as it still worked out cheaper than 1 flight.
What more can I add to the comments already made Everything that has been said is true. The hospitality shown by Eleana and everyone in the village is exceptional and there does not seem to be much of a price rise regardless of the hype in the papers re Greeces economy. We will return.
Fantastic place ! Extraordinary people ! We stayed there 2 weeks in July 09, and had an extremely nice holiday thanks to Iliana and her wonderful family. They really made us feel at home right away ! Will most certainly come back !!
Just returned from a lovely holiday in Ireon staying with Eleana who is a lovely person and makes you feel at home the minute you step out of your taxi. The aprtments are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Ireon is a quiet resort with brilliant restaurants and very friendly locals. Perfect for a relaxing holiday. This was out 2nd visit and wont be the last.
We had a truly wonderful holiday in Ireon staying with Eleana in her lovely apartments, where she made us feel extremely welcome. The apartments were spotlessley clean. The beach is a few minutes down the road as were the tavernas and shops. If you feel like a short walk then visit Pappas beach where the owner and his wife make you feel extremely welcome. Ireon itself is a small village making it perfect for a relaxing holiday by the sea. We will be back very soon.
Spent an extremely relaxing 8 days in laid-back friendly Ireon. The apartment was large and clean with a separate kitchen (a real plus) & balcony with sea view. The apartment was very well stocked with everything we needed from extra pillows & blankets to kitchen utensils and regularly cleaned while we were there.
The owner Ileana is a lovely host. She brought us jam and fruits on our arrival and was constantly but unobtrusively solicitous regarding our comfort & needs. She took us on a an excellent tour free of charge in the middle of our stay to some of the most interesting sights of Samos (there are many things to see) and cooked us a lovely breakfast on our last day but one as well as dropping us to the airport for our departure.
Ireon is a quiet little seaside village with a good choice of restaurants, cafes & shops/internet cafes/supermarkets.
Samos very easy to get to with a 35 minute flight direct from Athens.
Just back from a very relaxing and enjoyable week at Eleana Apartments in Ireon. We flew from Athens after a few hectic days there - the flight is short and easy, and Ireon is only a few minutes drive from the airport at Pythagorion (although the small number of flights means that there is no disturbance from air traffic during your stay). Our apartment was big, and was of the highest quality for the type that I've encountered so far in Greece - basic but had everything you would need, and some nice personal touches in the decor. It was also spotlessly clean, and was maintained this way for the duration of our stay.
Ireon is small, but has plenty in the way of restaurants and bars, and everywhere seems very friendly. There is a beach in the town, and another about 1km away (Pappas Beach) which makes a lovely walk and pretty destination. There are nice walks inland too, for example to the village of Mili about 3.5km away, giving great views over Ireon and the coast on the way there (although sadly no photographic opportunities at this stage of the walk, as there is a military base in the vicinity). The archeological site of the Temple of Hera is also in easy walking distance.
It would be well worth hiring a car to see other places on the island, but there is plenty to keep you occupied in Ireon and its environs.
The proprietrix of the apartments, Eleana, really added the icing to our holiday cake. She greeted us with a generosity of spirit which really illustrated the Greek concept of filoxenia (hospitality and welcome, love of strangers I suppose literally), but in a very unobtrusive manner. From a morning spent exploring some sites around Pythagorion with us (she offered to drive us) to the cakes, jams and lovely breakfast she made one morning as a special treat, and even the lift to the airport on our return trip, she demonstrated her great pride in Samos through her wholehearted interest in her guests and wish that they get the most from their holiday, whatever their particular interests might be.
With the demise of XL, it is unfortunate that Samos will likely not seem such an accessible destination next year for those travelling from the UK. We flew from Dublin to Athens and broke the journey for a few days there, which suited us but might not be to everyone's taste or budget. But a few hectic days there certainly made us appreciate the gentle routine of daily life in Ireon all the more and we have returned relaxed and delighted that we chose Eleana Apartments for our stay.
