Fantastic place ! Extraordinary people ! We stayed there 2 weeks in July 09, and had an extremely nice holiday thanks to Iliana and her wonderful family. They really made us feel at home right away ! Will most certainly come back !!
Just returned from a lovely holiday in Ireon staying with Eleana who is a lovely person and makes you feel at home the minute you step out of your taxi. The aprtments are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Ireon is a quiet resort with brilliant restaurants and very friendly locals. Perfect for a relaxing holiday. This was out 2nd visit and wont be the last.
We had a truly wonderful holiday in Ireon staying with Eleana in her lovely apartments, where she made us feel extremely welcome. The apartments were spotlessley clean. The beach is a few minutes down the road as were the tavernas and shops. If you feel like a short walk then visit Pappas beach where the owner and his wife make you feel extremely welcome. Ireon itself is a small village making it perfect for a relaxing holiday by the sea. We will be back very soon.
Spent an extremely relaxing 8 days in laid-back friendly Ireon. The apartment was large and clean with a separate kitchen (a real plus) & balcony with sea view. The apartment was very well stocked with everything we needed from extra pillows & blankets to kitchen utensils and regularly cleaned while we were there.
The owner Ileana is a lovely host. She brought us jam and fruits on our arrival and was constantly but unobtrusively solicitous regarding our comfort & needs. She took us on a an excellent tour free of charge in the middle of our stay to some of the most interesting sights of Samos (there are many things to see) and cooked us a lovely breakfast on our last day but one as well as dropping us to the airport for our departure.
Ireon is a quiet little seaside village with a good choice of restaurants, cafes & shops/internet cafes/supermarkets.
Samos very easy to get to with a 35 minute flight direct from Athens.
Just back from a very relaxing and enjoyable week at Eleana Apartments in Ireon. We flew from Athens after a few hectic days there - the flight is short and easy, and Ireon is only a few minutes drive from the airport at Pythagorion (although the small number of flights means that there is no disturbance from air traffic during your stay). Our apartment was big, and was of the highest quality for the type that I've encountered so far in Greece - basic but had everything you would need, and some nice personal touches in the decor. It was also spotlessly clean, and was maintained this way for the duration of our stay.
Ireon is small, but has plenty in the way of restaurants and bars, and everywhere seems very friendly. There is a beach in the town, and another about 1km away (Pappas Beach) which makes a lovely walk and pretty destination. There are nice walks inland too, for example to the village of Mili about 3.5km away, giving great views over Ireon and the coast on the way there (although sadly no photographic opportunities at this stage of the walk, as there is a military base in the vicinity). The archeological site of the Temple of Hera is also in easy walking distance.
It would be well worth hiring a car to see other places on the island, but there is plenty to keep you occupied in Ireon and its environs.
The proprietrix of the apartments, Eleana, really added the icing to our holiday cake. She greeted us with a generosity of spirit which really illustrated the Greek concept of filoxenia (hospitality and welcome, love of strangers I suppose literally), but in a very unobtrusive manner. From a morning spent exploring some sites around Pythagorion with us (she offered to drive us) to the cakes, jams and lovely breakfast she made one morning as a special treat, and even the lift to the airport on our return trip, she demonstrated her great pride in Samos through her wholehearted interest in her guests and wish that they get the most from their holiday, whatever their particular interests might be.
With the demise of XL, it is unfortunate that Samos will likely not seem such an accessible destination next year for those travelling from the UK. We flew from Dublin to Athens and broke the journey for a few days there, which suited us but might not be to everyone's taste or budget. But a few hectic days there certainly made us appreciate the gentle routine of daily life in Ireon all the more and we have returned relaxed and delighted that we chose Eleana Apartments for our stay.
Another wonderful stay at Eleanas- got the last XL flight out of Manchester but had booked back with Olympic via Athens unfortunately - we could have stayed longer! (Thomsons have taken over the XL slot for next year by the way).
There are always lots of hugs from locals when we arrive and there was homemade cheese, jam and cake waiting for us in the apartment; we had a birthday whilst we were there and Eleanas Mum baked a cake!
Had another day out with Eleana and on our last night joined a barbeque ...see the website for the photos!
Already booked again for next year - and my Mum is now knitting for Eleanas baby which is due at the beginning of April
Another Wonderful holiday in August. This Island is the most beautiful and friendly of all the islands we've visited. Eleana makes every guest fee special and you just want to go back year after year. I highly recommend ELEANA APARTMENTS.
We both had a fantastic week at Eleana Apartments in Ireon during the end of June 08 where we were both made to feel most welcome and relaxed. There are many family run taverna's in ireon which provide lots of good food and local wine. The pebble beach has beautiful clear water and is a great little haven to while away the lazy days.If you feel like indulging in a bit more activity there are many places to visit nearby although you would not be bored if you did not venture outside Ireon. Yassos Eleana for the hospitaliy and the lovely homemade cake and jam and we hope to see you soon. Wendy and Nick.
Just come back from another great week in Ireon, weather fantastic, as was the apartment and the hosts. Again nothing was too much trouble, and a great meal was put on the day before we left, all home made with Jannis & Ilianas Dads produce, and put together expertly by Iliana and her Mum. Going back again in September, which is a great time to be in Greece. A more peaceful and friendly place, I think you would struggle to find. Thanks again, see you in September, Peter & Lesley
