Getting there from the UK. - 2010
From Manchester...
Fly with Thomsons but book your ticket with Travel Republic who are often cheaper, and you can just pay a deposit rather than the whole fare, which is what Thomson make you do.
You still go with Thomson (obviously) but your ticket is usually with Thomas Cook.
We were in Samos when Excel went bang the other year, and our ticket was with Thomas Cook, and they were great, got us home on the same day we were due to go back with very little fuss.
Travelling 2009
Good News -
Viking Airlines are now flying direct from Gatwick at a reasonable price. Book online @ www.kissflights.com
Easyjet are going to fly from Manchester to Athens on a Wednesday from August , approx £150.00 - £200.00 return, then a transfer to Samos at 45.00 Euros, At least it's another option !!!!!
Best bet for flexible and cheap flights is Aegean Air https://eticket.aegeanair.com/itd/itd.From Stanstead.
Only drawback is a wait at Athens airport for your connecting flight of approx 4 hours.
The prices of flights have gone up this year, but if you want to stay at the Eleana, by the time you have finished there is very little difference between a two week holiday with Thompson, and booking your flight and staying with Eleana, just check your flight is ABTA protected and all will be OK.
Another company offering deals is www.flydeals.co.uk or www.flightline.co.uk .
You can fly from Manchester or Gatwick and Heathrow. StansteadTravel companies going to Samos at the minute are Thomson.. http://www.thomson.co.uk/
Easyjet have cheap flights to Athens, http://www.easyjet.com/ and then you can fly Olympic to Samos, www.olympicairlines.com/ and Aegean Air all bookable on line.
One or Two weeks seem to be the best option, having recently spoken to a Samos Fan who wanted a Three week holiday, (Lucky Man !!),
flights can be either expensive ot time consuming, best bet is ebookers for longer visits www.ebookers.com, you can get there via Athens with only an hour wait between flights.
Try www.flightline.co.uk they are sometimes cheaper, especially if you can get a seat WITHOUT a meal !!! saved me £200.00 this year.
From London the cheapest way is by Easyjet to Athens http://www.easyjet.com/ and then by Aegean Airways http://www.aegeanair.com/aegeanen/home/ . The flight from Athens to Samos is only an hour.
If you want to get away from it all to a beautiful Greek Island, we think that you will agree with us that it is worth that little bit of extra effort and book direct. More and more people book direct every year, why let the holiday companies dictate where you can stay ! They will send you to a more remote part of the island where you will soon become bored of the resort and pay them to take you on a trip. This is where they make most of their money!! Look on Holidays Uncovered, you will find some very good reviews of Samos and Ireon, compare it to other islands and you will see what we mean.
